Simply ask Chat GPT to give you a list of resume keywords related to XYZ job you’re targeting. Then work those keywords organically into your resume. You can also copy and paste the job description into Chat GPT. Then ask it to give you the most important keywords from that job description.

If you haven't done this or very close to it, move on. 2) Look at the industry. Are you in that industry, or one closely aligned? If not, move on. 3) Look at the number of reports. Are your reports in that ballpakr. If not, move on. 4) This will reduce the number of "blind" applications/resume submissions by at least 75%. I'd agree with @Omar Alberda in not tailoring your resume for each job. You need one solid resume that showcases your key achievements from each previous role. A hiring manager looks to hire a candidate who has been successful in each of their past jobs. Why? If you've been successful in the past, there's a very good chance you'll strive to be successful in your next job. The only part of the resume I recommend tailoring to each job is the target position. It should be the exact title of the job you're applying for.

The biggest problem I see in teacher career changers is they are still using their teacher resume to apply for corporate jobs. They also struggle to find the wording/verbiage to use in order to translate their education experience to corporate experience. While resume formation is important it likely means very little without the right content.

Next add metrics. Ask yourself “how much?” You can use a number, a percentage or a range. Finally write your achievements starting with the results and then outling your actions.

Finally, when it comes to relevant skills and certifications, there needs to be a separate section for certifications, as they need to be highlighted and prominent. However, it is ALWAYS advisable to weave the relevant hard and soft skills into your overall resume to 'show and tell' how you have used those skills to drive, say, X impact. Note that X is the impact here, which can be a trackable number. If I see a bucket list of skills provided in the separate table, I don't know if you have those or copied them from the internet. Hence, make everything relevant and impactful. It is your career. You need to own it seriously.

A skills section adds no value to a resume because: - There is no way to provide evidence that you have those skills - There’s no context - It takes up valuable space For education and certifications follow this rule of thumb: Industry-recognized certifications (e.g. CPA, MD) and exceptional education achievements (e.g. MBA, Ph.D.) go at the top of your resume. These may qualify you for an interview immediately. Standard educational achievements (e.g. Bachelor’s or Associate’s) and non-industry standard certifications (e.g. LinkedIn learning certification) go at the bottom of your resume. In most cases, these won’t qualify you for an interview.

A section about "Courses and certifications" or "Education and trainings" can highlight some hard skills, maybe in the IT/Telco or engineering field, where is a MUST to have some specific certification to work in that area (e.g.: Cisco, Prince, PMP, Ministry certifications for Engineers, Architects). Also, internal courses that you attended in the organisation that you worked are very useful for highlighting those soft skills that you developed and trained in order to be better in soft skills maybe in sales, marketing, HR.

Yes - I would review my resume and make sure that it's clear, concise, and highlights my biggest career impacts. But I would also make sure that my career goals were realistic (and that my resume reflects these goals). I would optimize my LinkedIn profile and I would be collaborating with my network to find opportunities. I wouldn't change my resume in a vacuum - I would make sure that I was doing all of these activities together as a comprehensive job search plan.

If you're going to listen to advice about resume writing, look for those who have a long history reviewing and evaluating resumes. Those are recruiting professionals. Not "award winning" multicertified "coaches". Not authors. But working recruiting professionals. @JanTegze, @AmyMiller, @KristenFife, and myself in the executive space.

I would add this: Your resume is one important element in your job search strategy. So, start by analyzing your entire job search approach comprehensively to land the interview. As a part of it, self-assess your resume: Is it targeted? Your resume won't work if you're targeting different roles, so make sure it is tailored, and include industry-specific and role-specific keywords. Is it strategically placed? Don't overdo it. Ensure you have an ATS-friendly format and template, and it should be grammatically correct. Maintain a balance in your resume – it's for both ATS and humans who will be reading your profile. Highlight your accomplishments and value-add; don't just list responsibilities alone.

If you know the recruiters name, send them a kind note via LinkedIn after you have applied expression your interest and attaching your resume. If your resume catches their eye, you may be able to circumvent the whole Applicant Tracking System together and make it to the next round of hiring. (This helped some job applicants I spoke to who send out over hundred applications to companies before getting an offer.)

Don’t “tactic steal” from other resume writers or sample resumes. Tactics used in other resumes can have a purpose and a reason that could be counter to what you are trying to achieve.
