Building a client's belief starts with showing them that their challenges are normal and manageable. I remind them, “Everyone faces hurdles at work, but what sets you apart is your willingness to tackle them.” This immediately reframes their struggles as part of growth, not failure. Next, I focus on their strengths. I highlight past achievements, saying, “You’ve overcome tough situations before, and this is no different.” By breaking down the problem into smaller, actionable steps and providing constant support, they begin to see their potential more clearly. Confidence grows with each small success!

Understanding their perspective and how they feel by listening and acknowledging what they are saying, validating it as real is a first step. Then helping them to reframe challenges as opportunities and create small steps to overcome them is next. Help them to see small wins as successful steps moving in the right direction and helping them to reflect on what worked well, will help build their confidence and overcome self doubt

When a client is grappling with workplace challenges, building their confidence is all about small wins and steady growth. I start by setting achievable goals—breaking down bigger tasks into manageable steps so progress feels within reach. As they hit those milestones, I make it a point to celebrate their successes, no matter how small, to create momentum and reinforce their sense of accomplishment. And when it comes to feedback, I keep it constructive and actionable, focusing on growth rather than critique. It’s all about empowering them to see their progress and potential!

Often, a confidence boost comes from reminding clients of past accomplishments. I’d guide them in identifying situations when they faced and overcame difficulties, highlighting the skills they used and the strengths they have developed. Recalling these “evidence points” when dealing with critical incidents builds their belief that they can overcome challenges again. Also, I believe that nothing fuels confidence like action. I’d encourage the client to break down larger challenges into small, manageable steps and tackle them progressively, focusing on progress, instead of perfection. Taking consistent action, no matter how small, builds competence and self-assurance over time.
