Not getting promoted may be of following reasons : 1. The work you are doing is only as per the instructions , no innovations coming, nothing new coming in , it’s only tailored made job. One should conduct one on one discussion with your seniors / co colleagues and peer ones . Feedbacks helps a lot in doing necessary changes if required in your modus operandi. Learning new skills in your field also adds a one degree higher in ur work .

My take on this is to make sure you have a solid personal brand around yourself. People love people. Also, in an organization. Perhaps you're not getting promoted because stakeholders find you super competent - but annoying. So, fix your personal brand first. The rest normally follow :)

There was a Director I knew of who climbed really fast after she came in to an organisation. Some say she was sneaky but some would view it as strategic. She did all the key projects and volunteered to lead and organise all the high profile office events like Christmas parties, Bonding Days, CSR activities etc. This actually gave her access to Senior Leadership and a high profile visibility to senior management. She would be the emcee for all these events and update senior management on the events during the planning stages. Well, she got noticed and they remembered her so when time came to select the next tier of leaders for pipeline, she was a natural choice.

Volunteering for projects is helpful. Few things for you to keep in mind: 1) Pick projects that make a positive impact to your organization (org). There may be many projects running in parallel within your org; choose a project that aligns with your org's strategic goals, which will solve a gnawing problem. 2) Look for projects that give you an opportunity to collaborate with those you wouldn't usually get to work with. This will expose you to new perspectives, widen your horizons and provide you with the much needed visibility. 3) Share your ideas and be respectful of others' ideas. Steer clear of extremes - over confidence and self doubt. Speak up. Remember to also respect others' ideas & give credit for the good ideas they share.

In my opinion one should follow the steps below: 1.Evaluate your current skills, strengths, and areas for improvement 2. Identify specific areas where you can contribute more to the organization 3. Define short-term and long-term career goals. 4. Align your goals with the company's objectives to demonstrate your commitment 5. Communicate with your supervisor 6. Express interest 7. Show initiative 8. Invest in continuous learning and development to enhance your skills 9.Network within the organization to build relationships with colleagues and superiors. 10. Be persistent in your efforts and maintain a positive attitude

Aus meiner Sicht sind es 2 notwendige Schritte: Uns selbst bewusst zu werden, was wir im Job als n?chstes tun oder lernen m?chten - also welche skills wir erweitern m?chten - und warum (!), ist der erste Schritt. Der zweite, absolut notwendige, ist darüber auch zu sprechen und M?glichkeiten auszuloten. Kann manchmal ein wenig dauern, hier ist dranbleiben alles. Und wenn es dafür einen Jobwechsel braucht - warum nicht?

Maybe they don't know? I've had employees come to be in the past frustrated they weren't considered for a role. When asked if they every communicated they were interested in that role the answer was no. Managers and leadership don't always know what is happening inside someone's head. It's important to communicate and let people know what you want out of your career and that you're willing to go outside your comfort zone. Don't take for granted that people automatically know what you want.

One thing a mentor I had shared with me early on in my career is to look 1-2 levels above and understand the work and responsibilities demanded of your boss and their boss. This creates a few things for you: 1) It allows you to add value by freeing up your boss to do what he needs to; 2) You can start exposing and training yourself in the kind of roles and expectations needed for the next level.

One thing I have found helpful is to take initiative to solve problems or improve processes. To make it easier for the decision on your promotion to be made, it is highly recommended to identify areas within your current role where you can streamline processes, increase efficiency, or address challenges. By proactively addressing issues and demonstrating your problem-solving skills, you can show your readiness for advancement. For example, if you notice a recurring issue in customer service, propose a solution and take the lead on implementing it.

Another perspective is to map your line managers and his line managers stakeholders. Reviewing what inputs are required and offering to help align it to what stakeholders need is a great win.

To take on new responsibilities despite not getting promoted, I would: 1. Express my interest in growth and development to my manager, highlighting my readiness for additional challenges. 2. Seek opportunities to volunteer for projects or tasks outside of my current role, demonstrating initiative and willingness to contribute. 3. Take ownership of my professional development by pursuing relevant training, certifications, or skill-building activities independently. 4. Proactively communicate with my manager about my career aspirations and inquire about potential avenues for advancement or expanded responsibilities within the organization.

If you are not getting promoted, then it could be due to your lack of skills, office politics, the company's inability to promote you due to its limited budget, or external factors like inflation and other related things. So try to understand the root cause and find a suitable solution. And I suggest the following: 1. Lack of skills: upskill yourself. 2. Office politics: always have a good relationship with the final decision-makers and showcase your work from time to time. 3. Companies budget: if you believe you deserve better, switch your job after serving your notice period (as an entrepreneur, I don't encourage ghosting). 4. Other factors: you are wise and you know what to do.
