Always take the time to communicate how the safety training benefits specifically the drivers, but also the company. This includes providing real examples which they can relate. Find champions within the fleet to help communicate the positives of the safety training. Offer incentives and recognition for completion of the safety training. Also, ensure that all drivers are held accountable to complete the training. Always do a thorough job for preparing and delivering the training.

- Emphasize personal well-being: Explain how safety training can protect drivers and their families. - Showcase company culture: Demonstrate how a strong safety culture benefits the entire organization. - Reward safe driving: Implement incentive programs to recognize and reward safe driving behaviors.

In the safety training programs I participate in, we aim to quickly engage the emotional side to capture attention. We present real-life cases, such as limb loss, and risky situations caused by overconfidence in driving skills. Drivers are asked to imagine how life would be without a limb, how it would impact their family time and leisure activities, and then we present safe work practices as the solution. We maintain an open dialogue about daily situations that may occur in the company. Additionally, drivers receive personalized certificates. In client companies, I’ve noticed that active invitations to training and public recognition of participants yield better results.
