The first rule is to never beat around the bush when you are facing tough questions during the presentation. This is the first way you can hold the room. Secondly, always admit if you don't know the answer of any question instead ignoring the question. This showcases that you are a human being and it's normal if you don't the answer of the question. Your non-verbal communication plays a crucial role in this circumstance.

When facing a tough question during a Q&A session, maintaining composure and authority is key. First, take a moment to pause and gather your thoughts before responding, showing that you’re confident and thoughtful. Acknowledge the question and, if necessary, reframe it to ensure clarity. Respond with confidence, sticking to facts or your area of expertise. If you’re unsure about something, it’s okay to admit it but offer to follow up or provide further information later. Maintain a calm tone, and keep your body language open and assertive, which signals control to the room. Finally, after addressing the question, guide the session back on track by directing attention to the broader discussion.

I feel it requires a blend of confidence, authority, and humility to navigate tough questions. Start by taking a deep breath before responding; this establishes control and shows confidence. Acknowledge the question by saying, “That’s a great question,” which validates the questioner’s concerns and fosters a respectful atmosphere. Consider a light-hearted comment, like, “Impressive, you really raised the bar with that question!” to ease tension. Admit it, if you don’t have an answer, “That’s complex, and I’d need to look into it.” This shows humility and a willingness to learn. Be a part of team solutions: “While that’s a valid concern, here’s how we can tackle it.” Invite dialogue to engage and show you value their perspective.

Being honest with your answers and accepting that this question is not related with your niche or even if it is you are not sure about the answers so you will learn more about it and get back to them through email and do not forget to thank you audience for bringing such questions that will help you to enhance your skill about the subject.
