For me it’s essential to approach the situation with empathy and understanding, recognizing that challenges can arise for various reasons. Encouraging open dialogue allows team members to express their concerns and share their perspectives, which can lead to valuable insights about the underlying issues affecting performance. Celebrating small wins, even in tough times, can help boost morale and remind the team of their capabilities and progress. Additionally, providing constructive feedback and support rather than criticism fosters a growth mindset, encouraging team members to learn from setbacks and strive for improvement.

When the team is facing underperformance 1) Sit and Discuss with the team to understand the major problem that they are facing. 2) Understand the skillset of individual team members and ensure if the correct person is assigned with the tasks which they are good at. If not, discuss with the product owner or the lead and address the gap in task assignments. 3) When the team needs to work on a new technology or adapt to the new business needs, analyze with the development team before making any commitment to the clients. 4) Ensure the entire development team is being a part of all technical discussions with respect to requirement gathering, service and solution design approach to be followed, committed date of delivery.
