Having accepted the new technology for our wellness centre as a future roadmap, I would use the criteria that were used to decide on this new technology to communicate to my staff prior to the implementation - 1. Highlight the benefits to the customers of the wellness centre 2. The new technology roadmap would bring competitive edge to our organization’s business 3. New tech adaption would not only benefit the staff to perform their roles in the new setting but also upskill them and make them up to date/ on par with the top wellness centres in the world. 4. After a systematic training/ certification that is expected to eliminate the nervousness about the new tech, would set up a support desk with the experts to handhold them for 3-6 months

It’s critical to establish the vision for better patient care and to articulate how the technology will enable that. Yes, there are always challenges with any technology deployment. Again, important to articulate management commitment to work with the suppliers to ensure that our team’s requests are heard and considered by the suppliers.

As a manager you need to understand what is a causing the conflict and try to peel to get to the root cause of it. Most of the time it’s a fear from the challenge that it will bring upon them. If that is the cause, explain the positive of that new technology and how important it is for the success of the organization

Ideas. Concerns. Expectations. These need to be addressed as to understand the cause of the tension and then to work toward having synergy with adoption of technology. Technology or any change tends to be a tad slower in healthcare. It’s just the nature of healthcare. Healthcare is unique - it’s a long play. But if done well and consistent in direction, it’s sustainable and adds much more value to society. Though change in healthcare takes effort and time but if executed well, it’s well worth it.

I’ve found that when the team is involved in the decision making process, they will be more likely to be vested in implementation. One tension is present use the principle of commitment and consistency by connecting the new system to the practice’s mission.
