Navigating career setbacks can shake your confidence, but it’s also a chance to build resilience and refocus on what truly matters. Start by acknowledging your strengths—both in specific skills and broader competencies and the values you bring to your role. Reflect on your inner work life—those thoughts, emotions, and motivations that drive you daily—to reconnect with your purpose and find renewed motivation. Remember, don’t sacrifice long-term opportunities for temporary comfort. Setbacks are natural and don’t define your potential. By making conscious choices aligned with both personal fulfillment and professional development, you’ll regain confidence and position yourself for meaningful progress.

Set small, achievable goals to rebuild momentum and celebrate progress, no matter how minor. Seek support from mentors or peers who can offer perspective and encouragement. Engage in activities that reinforce your strengths, and practice self-compassion to avoid harsh self-criticism. Finally, reframe the setback as a stepping stone to new opportunities, using it to fuel resilience and determination as you move forward.

I have been away from Career for the past 3 years thanks to relocation and cancer. Initially, I felt like that was it for me. However, confronting a think like cancer actually reinforces your #confidence, #doggedness and #resilience. In a way, cancer is like a confidence burst. What I am beginning to do is take back my life gradually. And the first step was doing a forensic audit of my past life. #Reflection came with a surprise as I was not even aware of the things I had achieved. Some skills I had underestimated. Going out there to see what is happening helps me see that I got more than enough to get into any space, when I return, and hold my own. Which is also why I am sharing expertise via these contributions.
