If you get real resistance from clients on sustainable project costs, my advice is to just walk away. If you've done your job properly on presenting your proposal in the right way outlining the benefits of the work and substantiating the costs, then if the client is resisting this is a bad sign. Chances are someone is just box-ticking to try and get someone (a client, an internal advocate?) off their backs at the lowest possible cost and they have no real interest or commitment to sustainability so you will be wasting your time trying to help them or else end up doing the work for minimal cost and very little satisfaction.
