Navigating power dynamics requires transparency and open communication. Establishing a structured decision-making process can mitigate biases and ensure all voices are heard. "The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn't said." - Peter Drucker

Ensuring that every voice is heard becomes paramount. Here are some effective approaches: 1?? Create an Inclusive Environment: Encourage open dialogue where everyone feels comfortable sharing their opinions, regardless of their position. 2?? Facilitate Structured Decision-Making: Use frameworks like consensus-building to ensure decisions are made collectively and transparently. 3?? Acknowledge Diverse Perspectives: Celebrate the unique strengths and insights of each team member, fostering appreciation and trust. 4?? This is a great example of when the average should be leaning towards fair, not every small decision. Ask in meetings or when power plays occur: "What is the best thing for the organization right now?"

70% of communication is non verbal. Hence we tend to understand someone who is speaking in unfamiliar languages. Hence it's important to have the right tone, body language, well directed efforts and also persuasive communications in order to set an example. Consideration of all stakeholders plays a major role in unbiased and practical decision making.

To ensure a fair decision-making processes you may want to establish psychological safety first with the group in question, making sure everyone has a voice and that is valued and that there is no fear of retribution. Level the ground first. This would establish the foundation for open dialogue, and hopefully consensus building to make decisions fairly. You can facilitate a working session to get to a consensus for example, but not before everyone feels empowered to voice their thoughts. You may want to wrap up that facilitation with a reflection exercise, a retrospective on how did this felt, if everyone really spoke their mind, and what would they do different to improve in the future.
