Major business problems arise because of 4Ms- Man, machine, material, method. One has to evaluate these M meticulously to deliver a feasible solution. Below are some tools which can be used to define the problems and focus on the solutions: 1-Pareto Analysis. 2-SWOT Analysis. 3- 5 WHY Analysis 4-PDCA cycle 5- Cost Benefit Analysis 6- Defining SMART Goals.

Problem definition is the first step towards problem-solving. It helps to identify if the issue is recurring or if it is a one-time occurrence problem. Then investigate the root cause of the problem. You can use analytical tools or the 5 WHYS. To help you answer questions and understand the problem.

1st thing in problem solving is the realization, that yes this is a problem. Until & unless you you don't realize it as a problem, you will not go for a solution and you will adjust with the problem and start living with it. So we need to upgrade our self, should believe in continuous improvement.

Quite often the problem is already predefined. Someone has raised a hand and said we have a problem. The skill is to be openminded and really observe what the problem is, the symptoms and the consequences. I often spend time looking and observing before understanding that what was the perceived problem is actually a symptom or consequence. A small well trained team observing like this can often be the most effective and efficient approach. Then you can start to use your standard tools for analysis and establishing root causes. The entire company will benefit more from a correct diagnosis and treatment.

Use root cause analysis tools. It's as simple as that. Before attempting to solve the problem, understand its source. Otherwise, you're just fixing the symptoms without addressing the real issue.

The DMAIC process is more than just a sequence of steps; it embodies a cultural approach to problem-solving, accentuating the importance of collaborative teamwork, systematic analysis, and a steadfast commitment to sustainable results.

The biggest business problem is that we immediately start solving a problem without understanding its true nature and extent and thus embark on solving issues besides the real problem. In as much as we invest in understand the depth of the problem in as much we are able come up with realistic and effective solutions !

Identifying the root cause of the problem it’s very crucial. Listening and understanding what processes or steps that might have caused the business to breakdown. As this will allow you to narrow down an alternative solution to fixing the problem or whereas will allow you to implement a better solution to prevent any future issues.

Exploring potential solutions is pivotal in problem-solving. Utilize a variety of tools such as brainstorming sessions, mind mapping, and decision matrices to generate and assess options. Brainstorm to collect a diverse array of ideas, employ mind mapping for visual organization, and utilize decision matrices for objective evaluation of each option's feasibility and implications. Inclusion of cross-functional teams ensures a comprehensive perspective, and seeking input from diverse sources enriches the pool of ideas. This collaborative approach increases the chances of identifying innovative and effective solutions to tackle the identified problem.

In my work as an advisor to executives I often see leaders miss out on the human aspect of problem solving. Granted there are standard processes to follow, one of the most important pieces is reaching out to the people who, on a daily basis, are dealing with the problem. Their real-world experiences are what will help define and identify the root cause of the problem. I believe that involving workers during this phase can be very beneficial as they are working in that area. They must be knowing everything clearly including root cause. So auditing can be the option to consider while thinking about problem and trying to solve them.

I think complex business problems demand improved sensitivity, and in my opinion data collection should be an integral part of the problem-solving strategy. ??Why? ??
