If your scene requires CGI support, consider blending it with practical VFX to create a more immersive experience. A great example is how Michael Bay handled CGI-heavy sequences in the first *Transformers* movie, particularly the highway chase scene. By integrating real-world elements with CGI, the sequence felt grounded and engaging, rather than overtly digital. This approach helps maintain the audience’s suspension of disbelief and enhances the overall cinematic impact.

Years ago, I worked on a Visa Canada commercial that required three days of VFX combined with live-action stuntwork. The editors were on set, and at that time, Autodesk was the 3D/composite go-to VFX company. The main takeaway of that last sentence is 'the editors were on set'. Don't banish your editor/s to a dark dungeon. Consult with them during pre-development, development, production, and post will move quicker.

In order to smoothly incorporate CGI into a live-action video, you need to plan ahead of time to determine exactly where and how the effects will be used before the filming begins. Using green screens and tracking markers can help integrate CGI elements easily into the real footage. It’s very important to match the lighting and camera movements between the live-action shots and the CGI to make everything look natural. Filming in high quality with a good resolution and frame rate also really helps blend the effects more convincingly. Last, but not least, working with a skilled VFX artist ensures that the CGI will look realistic and enhances the overall impact of the video rather than standing out as fake and unreal.
