You're facing hardware limitations in VR design. How can you optimize software to overcome them?

This is a very important factor for the last 3 years, since Standalone VR headsets have become the norm. The major tips are to first reduce the unnecessary objects in the scene, and also make sure you compress the texture sizes, this will itself do 70% reduction, then the key areas you can further improve are using Culling mask and Foveated rendering to reduce the objects being rendered in any frame. And finally, before you compile the build, you have different gameplay settings which you can play to further optimize the VR module performance in the standalone VR device

Una correcta optimización es tanto de dise?o como de programación. Yo estoy especializado en la optimización de dise?o para software y según mi experiencia hay varias cosas que podemos hacer. Usar texturas dependiendo para que plataforma se requiere, debemos tener opciones de usar texturas de medidas como 4096, 2048, 1024, 512 y 256, recomiendo no bajar de esta calidad de textura. Podemos optimizar en escenarios usando prefabs, con esto me refiero a modelos 3D que son prefabricados para que sean la copia de otro y podamos posicionarlo distinto.

En la empresa siempre hemos usado Unity como motor de desarrollo, aquí usamos durante todo el desarrollo un medido de FPS para que ninguna escena lleve al limite al dispositivo. Recomiendo usar esto y no saturar de efectos tampoco la experiencia. Por ejemplo, si estamos desarrollando para dispositivos como Meta Quest 3 o Oculus Quest 2, debemos saber que utiliza Android y que estamos más limitados que desarrollando para un pc.

Recomiendo desde el inicio tener bien en claro los limites del proyecto, con esto me refiero a que plataforma vamos a usar y que tanto estresa al dispositivo nuestra experiencia. Podrían usar un medido de FPS y que no supere cierto limite. Recurrir a expertos en desarrollo de software para una segunda opinión, en la empresa hemos dado capacitación en este tema a muchos equipos de desarrollo que no entendían por que su sistema no se ejecutaba correctamente.
