Are they driven by external factors like consumer demand, or are they self-imposed due to internal inefficiencies? Understanding this distinction is key. Even when consumer demand varies, tools like hijunka (production leveling) can be instrumental in smoothing out these fluctuations and reducing waste. By aligning production schedules more closely with actual demand, we can maintain efficiency and minimize the impact of variability on the manufacturing process.
