I worked in an environment where tasks were sometimes in conflict between a sales manager and my service manager. When in conflict I would ask my service manager in what order he wanted to do the task and let him work out the issues with the sales manager. This kept me out of the sales managers crosshairs but in no case did I tell a sales manager no. I left that up to supervisors to do. I was generally reliable but there were some tasks I was not good at and they were passed to someone else but not often.
