Involving automation tests into your CI&CD pipelines effectively reduces release time just because you don’t need to run regression manually. Keep in mind that you can also run tests by suites and verify most important functionality rather than run whole regression in case if release should be done yesterday. Once automation test suite is completed and there are no any issues or blockers you would only need to verify new changes that they meet requirements and it have no any blockers for release too. In this combination automated suites run + manual effort to assure that new changes meet requirements you can easily give a green light for release.

Risk based testing is your helper here. In other words you have to prioritize all the functionality and test out super sensitive parts or components that should work in any way plus that new feature/bug fix/changes that go in that release. In such way you can ensure that major functionality works as expected as well as new changes meet new requirements.
