When dealing with a challenging client who demands quick outcomes, I focus on managing my emotions by staying composed and professional. I practice active listening to fully understand their concerns and acknowledge their urgency. By taking deep breaths and maintaining a solution-oriented mindset, I prevent frustration from affecting my response. I set realistic expectations, explaining the process and potential limitations calmly. Open, honest communication helps build trust and manage their expectations. To stay balanced, I maintain perspective, focusing on long-term goals and reminding myself that resolving the situation effectively strengthens both the client relationship and my professional growth.

I'm working with a business partner with a very different opinion of what is happening in our project and has different expectations of outcome times, communication speed, etc. I have more experience in the type of project we are working on and this is causing some very uncomfortable conversations as we navigate our differing perspectives. I look at the emotions I am having as data points; what was said, what am I assuming that means, where do I need more information? I then remind myself that their view is at least 10% correct. I play a game, called "Yes And." I take the 10% value and I say, what I like about that is X and then I think what would be of value for me to add to enhance the idea. It helps me focus on resolution and direction.

Stay calm and composed, even when faced with pressure for quick outcomes. Practice self-awareness to recognize your emotional triggers and manage them effectively. Use positive self-talk and deep-breathing techniques to stay focused. Empathize with the client’s urgency, but set realistic expectations and communicate clearly about what can be achieved within the given timeframe.
