We cannot compromise on some of the key elements while considering the designs.. We can optimize the designs in considering the earth quake or sesmic loads based upon codes and past data in order to reduce the steel or concrete. Fundamental checks cannot be violated in the name of optimization. We come across sometimes ,customer will initially tell we need 500 kg / sqm for slab . After getting the clients or they want to establish a equipment or factory , they want 1000 kg/ sqm. Cost reduction everytime won't work . We can use advance methods like FEM to do more optimization to understand the stress and strain factors

More than design cost , workforce or labour cost is more . By using technology we can save much more cost . Earlier days in steel plant expansions where I use to work , my manager use to use 500 workers for doing 10 cum of column concrete for a entire day . Cost of concrete is let say 30000 rs and workers cost is 1 lakh rupees . Afterwards we used technology like boomer, concrete pumps and reduced manpower by 15 to 20 numbers . Now a days we are getting good technology in the market to reduce the cost of construction. Fundamental designs we can optimize but not at the cost of future needs . Now a days nano technology was developed where lighter members are introduced for much more loads which we can see in airports etc .

Understanding the construction journey is the big tool to reduce the cost . Human resources vs technology. Management tools vs human understanding of construction. One can reduce the cost by efficiently using human resources. For a 50 cr project, we need not hire 10 engineers , instead with 3-4 people we can manage efficiently. When I use to work for one France company in india , the cost of the project is 400 cr , they employed 5 engineers for various departments. Vendors manpower is different since it is not direct cost to company. Our companies will hire so many people where operating cost will be high and output also wont come .

Always vocal to local is better for sourcing to reduce overheads . If we are getting a project in Chennai , better hire local people with local vendors.

Safety is always high priority, there is no short cut . Team collaboration will share the responsibility within the team. We doesn't compromise on safety at sites
