How do you navigate artistic differences in your creative projects?
-
I prioritize clear communication, where I openly discuss my vision and encourage the model to share theirs. Flexibility and a collaborative approach also allow us to blend our ideas for the best outcome.
-
I'd start by asking the model what they envision for the shoot, focusing on specific themes, poses, and moods they want to explore. This gives them a platform to express their creative perspective, which I can then build on. Then share my own vision, explaining what I’m aiming to achieve, particularly if it's part of a specific style or storytelling approach. From there, we could identify any shared goals and work toward blending our ideas into a cohesive plan. Using visual aids can be powerful for aligning perspectives. We’d review images together that capture elements of both our visions, like color palettes, poses, and expressions, to give us a shared foundation for the shoot.

This is a casting issue. If you are working on your project and your vision, a well-informed model during the casting process about the details of the project in question should not stop the creative process. Just the opposite, proper casting will provide you with a creative talent who can contribute his/her own input to the shoot and enrich your vision.
-
Start with a conversation. Listen to the model’s ideas and concerns and share your vision and the goals for the shoot. Identify overlapping elements in your ideas. Highlight where your visions align and build from there. Create or review a mood board together. This visual reference can help you see how your styles complement each other. Be willing to adapt and incorporate some of their suggestions. Flexibility can foster a more collaborative and harmonious atmosphere. Share past work that illustrates your vision. Visuals can often communicate ideas more effectively than words alone. Take a few test shots incorporating both of?your ideas. Review them together to see what works best and find a compromise that satisfies both.
