Prep is everything! Knowing who's in the room and what they're going through is like having a cheat sheet for a great session. If you've done your homework, you can tailor the conversation to everyone's needs. Plus, having a clear plan keeps things on track and lets people know what to expect. It's like setting the stage for a good show – you want everyone to feel comfortable and ready to share.

I begin with something that's engaging to the peer group, like going over how to utilize the online tabs, gestures, and/or keys to allow them to know what steps to take to stay with the group. Not everyone is at the same level and it's important to have everyone feel included. Giving everyone a chance to participate is very important reonline group since everyone is only on a screen having to do introductions, answer questions, and ask questions benefits the group as a whole as well as the individual who is participating. I like to close with members sharing how they feel they benefitted from the group or did not benefit to help me improve as a facilitator. Also requesting what members would like to discuss for further planned groups.

Use the tools provided by the software. Give participants small tasks like ice-breaker exercises or to put an emoji in the chat how they are feeling. You can use the reaction buttons, or raise hand features. Polls are also good to engage people.
