How many people do you consider to be a large group? What are you assessing? What are your available resources? These are vital questions to answer this. I have taught groups of 400+ and this limits the practical forms of assessment because there was a limitation on staff numbers and time in which to do the assessment.

It depends on the topic(s) being covered and what you are trying to get out of the facilitation session. I believe that it is always good to have a strong behavioral assessment tool, like Predictive Index, to be used to build trust, understanding, and connection points about how people interact and work together. That should be a primary layer for learning in big groups, because you want each table/row/section of individuals to gel together as best possible first before they start learning about the topic being shared.
