Also, deep breathing can help you to reduce stress and keep you grounded so you can centre your thoughts and focus on delivering your message clearly despite the time restraints.

Familiarizing yourself with the venue before your presentation is crucial. Knowing the layout, acoustics, and audience placement can greatly enhance your confidence. Practicing in the actual space, if possible, helps you adjust your voice and body language to the environment. This preparation ensures you feel comfortable and appear more in control, projecting confidence to your audience.

Kick off with a compelling question. Ask for the lights to be fully up. Walk off the stage with a handheld microphone and ask several random people in the audience to stand and answer the question. Do NOT ask for volunteers or a show of hands ... you need to select a few random people and engage them directly!! This sets the tone for a conversation with the audience not a presentation ... you are speaking with them ... not at them.

Don't focus on the short preparation time which can make you more nervous, but focus on how you can still add value to people when you get up on stage. The people who chose you to speak even with the limited preparation time believe that you can deliver an amazing speech. Don't think otherwise. Just do your best and enjoy!

I think it is very valuable to remember that even if your talk is not perfect, you are still the expert, and you know more about your topic than anyone else. Don't try for perfection. If something goes wrong, you are the only one that knows it, so be flexible and adapt.

This can be studying about the topic in-depth, practicing, and gaining experience in doing an actual speech multiple times. This can all add up and build competence. When you have competence, it will lead to confidence. Go get that speech and do your best!
