Regular questions and humor. I would regularly throw questions at the audience and even hand pick a few people to answer. That keeps them alert, but what makes them engage is humor. I make it a point get some laughter from them every 5-10 minutes. That way they are keen to know what's coming up next. And that engages.

The key to keep the energy high in a long session is to treat it like a conversation, not a lecture. If you want to engage your audience for a long time, weave in quick stories, throw out a fun question, and maybe even surprise them with a little humor. I would also add that, keep your talks interactive and lively so everyone feels part of the journey, not mere spectators. People crave connection and want their contributions to matter. Because, a great talk isn’t just about speaking—it’s about sparking genuine connections!

Be Engaging. Use Visuals. Be Adaptable. These principles guide me whenever I speak in front of an audience. There’s nothing more disheartening than looking out at an audience and seeing boredom etched on their faces. To avoid this, engage your listeners by varying your tone and pace. Utilize the space around you, and don't be afraid to move around the room. This captures the audience's attention and fosters a connection. Incorporate visual aids into your presentation. Images, objects, or live demonstrations can enhance understanding and retention and keep your audience intrigued. Always read the room. Study your audience's reactions. Be flexible and prepared to adapt your delivery style as needed to ensure a successful presentation.

We’re definitely moving into a more visual world, and attention spans seem shorter than ever. That’s why I use not just PowerPoint slides, but also unique visual aids like boxing gloves or large paintings, along with related materials in my stories. These elements really help keep the audience engaged.

Generally, these three strategies are especially effective: 1. Ask thought-provoking questions. 2. Add relatable humor. 3. Invite the audience to share their perspectives. Meanwhile, as the speaker, take brief pauses to recharge and keep the energy lively. Scan the audience to identify eager participants, and involve them as volunteers to share insights or engage in activities—an excellent way to build rapport, share knowledge and influence effectively.
