I buy a new printer. Since we use desktop printers to make metal, I can usually get a new and better printer the same or next day for a few hundred dollars.

When faced with a critical 3D printing component on back-order, I focus on maintaining progress through a mix of proactive strategies: 1. Sourcing Alternatives: I reach out to secondary suppliers or explore local markets for compatible parts. 2. Redesigning if Feasible: Sometimes, minor adjustments to the design can accommodate a readily available alternative. 3. Transparent Communication: I keep stakeholders informed, sharing revised timelines and contingency plans. 4. Leveraging Temporary Fixes: If possible, I use interim solutions to avoid bottlenecks while awaiting the original component.
-
My formula is as follows: all my printers are of the same brand and model. Thanks to this "unification", I have several stocks of each component so that I can replace it in a matter of minutes in any of my printers. I also have 2 printers still in their box in case a complete replacement of any printer is necessary.

When a critical 3D printing component is on backorder, I explore alternatives to keep the project on track. This could include finding substitute materials or suppliers, adjusting the project timeline strategically, or prioritizing other tasks to maximize productivity while waiting. Clear communication with the team and clients ensures everyone is aligned on the updated plan and expectations, helping to minimize delays and maintain momentum.

To keep things on track, I’ll focus on tasks that don’t need the missing part, at the same time look for other suppliers, and use temporary fixes if needed and repair the broken parts if possible. I’ll also update everyone on the revised timeline and underpromise to manage expectations. This way, progress won’t stall, and I can adapt while waiting for the backordered component.
