Client's request for discounts can be tricky, but it’s possible. Instead of reducing your rates, provide alternative service packages. You can suggest scaling down the scope of work (e.g., fewer hours of work, fewer deliverables) while maintaining quality. This ensures the client gets value within their budget without compromising your standards. If you offer a discount, link it to something mutually beneficial, like committing to a long-term partnership or providing referrals. This way, you’re ensuring value beyond the immediate transaction.

For some reason, asking photographers to discount or even work for free is very common. First, you have to know your own self-worth and this is different for everyone and can be challenging. Second, believe in your pricing! If you've worked your numbers and you believe you are giving great value for service, then you can explain the worth of the package or adjust the package to the client's budget accordingly. Third, if the client still pushes for a discount, offer an added-value item like a reel of their session or additional image file in place of a discount. Know your worth!
