It is always advisable to create the dimension and attributes based which the data modelling should be done with proper data types and constraints. Well established relationships between end points or tables help to have more structured way of storing and retrieving data.

Yes, it is possible that you should have an architecture diagram, a standards document and data elements inventory somewhere in the corporate data store, chances are that they are already old and in need of update. So assessing the current state will help you get a list of what you got. 2. Find the future state. Future is a vague term, so talk to stakeholders to get a clear view of what this "future" means - n years from now? How can the business sector change? This could mean challenge coming from AI, Blockchain etc or new regulatory paradigms or challenging geopolitics. Identify at least top 3 challenges and opportunities. In today’s architecture, flexibility and agility is table stakes even for data warehouses. I recommend to choose a data warehouse solution that provides various knobs that an administrator can control including storage capacity, compute and ability to separate users to different compute environments based on their SLA needs. In my previous project we created several virtual warehouses with different compute capacities; and assigned them to respective teams based on their needs.

If you currently have one cooling unit, you might require two to three more to manage the increased heat output.

You can check your current database to see how your model has grown over time. 1.a) Keep in mind that your data will always have an increasing trend, since it is very likely (or not) that your business will grow or launch new products. 2) For this reason, it is necessary to consider tools that are scalable according to demand.

You can use a variety of data bases. 1) Relational databases:MySQL and Oracle leverage relationships between tables to organise and store data in tables. 2) NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Cassandra can grow horizontally to meet the demands of high- traffic applications .They are built to handle enormous amounts of unstructured data. 3) Graph databases like Neo4j are made to manage densely connected data that can be visualised as a graph. They are frequently used in applications that call for real -time data processing .They are well suited for handling complex interactions. 4) In- memory databases like Redis, Memcached store data in memory. Made for high performance applications which require quick access to data. Caches.

Implement a process to evaluate current workloads for optimization or decommissioning whenever a new data warehouse workload is added.

An optimal design is extremely necessary for several reasons. 1) If our mode is on-demand, the less optimized the queries are, the more money we are going to spend. “Forcing” developers to use partitioning and clustering. 2) Complexity: The design always has to be as simple as possible, both in nomenclature and relationships. 3) New users: Keep in mind that not all users have full technical knowledge, so your model must be easy to explain. 4) Well-defined governance plan, roles, nomenclature, security, documentation (A single post could be made about this)

Even though have been utilizing the following tech for the last 2-3 yrs, using them for a long-term aim appears safe and trendy: - Apache Airflow: Comprehensive, open source, and free. Most likely, we are able to combine any cloud service and/or perform any task in one location. - Databricks: Process vast amounts of data using Spark jobs with a lot of facilities. - DWH: Individuals enjoy hopping into any of these BigQuery/Redshift/Snowflake without hesitation. - dbt: To speed up any process involving data warehousing. The dbt cloud AP is not available in the free tier of the DBT Cloud, nor is it free for a single account. - SODA/Great Expectation: To assess the quality of the data both before and after it is ingested. - Terraform

Trends and new tools. It is extremely good to be up to date in terms of tool use, but keep in mind that perhaps your business model adapts to something simpler and not to the latest new technology launched by a provider. If you consider it necessary to evaluate this. Currently, the tools of the different cloud providers can be combined, at the end of the day everything will depend on your needs and as I mentioned above, the knowledge and confidence of your work team.

There is a saying "You cannot improve something if you don't measure " . In datawarehouses , you would need to monitor performance of queries , data pipelines and most importantly gather end user feedback. You need to know if your end users are using it effectively and if they have any issues.Your architecture and design patterns also need to be scalable. It is extremely critical to implement a layered data architecture so it can scale with evolving needs of the enterprise. The service model of the enterprise have to be thought through as well so you know what type of end users you are supporting.In short Design a layered data architecture and establish the different service models and be agile to make changes when necessary.

This point is extremely important. We often forget about the much-needed monitoring. 1) Do a "daily" review of your query consumption 2) If necessary, optimize or lower guidelines 3) Keep in mind that our entire model generates data and metadata. Use this to your advantage, to improve in the future and make our company more optimal, saving and optimizing. 4) There are many monitoring tools, even our cloud providers provide us with reports on this.
