That person you see in the mirror is your greatest mentor, FULL STOP. You will see Weakness, Anxiety, Reluctance your WAR! As you traverse the landscape during your journey, you will witness the good and the bad. You will fall and get back up When you realize you have witnessed and experienced how to survive, that person in the mirror will see Courage, Confidence, Commitment your C3 factor and your mentor battling your WAR! That person in the mirror is the world's greatest mentor! So long as that person has endured the journey to learn, Unlearn and Relearn, FULL STOP!

Look for the skills and actions to learn to excel at your role, then create a matrix of each skill referencing your current level of proficiency and compare it with how often it's needed to raise the bar at work. Prioritize finding 2-3 skills that will grant the most feasible outcome once developed and check which aspects there can be taught. The next step would be creating a story of what skills you need and why you want to develop them to pitch to a possible mentor. Later on, the journey of finding a mentor continues with researching those who can support your defined set of skills as well as being experienced at your line of work in order to reach out with your story.

A good mentor has three qualities: 1. They want what's best for you. 2. They can build your capacity. 3. They will tell you the truth. You need to invest in building relationships with people, including prospective mentors. When you develop mutual trust, you can have a mentoring relationship.

In the Military changing environments is part of our careers which means we need to assess and adapt. In my experience I like to observe leaders and peers working behaviors. Then identify leaders that align with my desire career path. Finally engage in conversations on how they reach levels of success and what are recommendations to establish in my career. Also, I like to have multiple mentors, this allow several pathways and perspective to account for.
