Mainly while selecting we need to consider 1. Range what is maximum and minimum values are planning to use by using this metre 2. How accurately it's giving reading with proper certification from authorised institutions. 3. What functionality can it provide like voltage, current, power and power factor etc...

It might be the case that you're best served with a bench DMM for calibrated data acquisition and a handheld DMM with lower resolution but way more functions for debug work. Usually I would look for model with a “Low-Z” function as it’s help to determine isolated control circuit having “ ghost voltage “ that causes confusion. I would also look for a multimeter that has an option of a magnetic strap which can be easily hanged on control panel during fault finding.
