conducting a risk assessment must be the first step on any security project, as this will provide insight on what we are dealing with and the security maturity level of the Client. based on the finding we can outline the best practice recommend appropriate solutions. this assessment should include (but not limited to) - data type and sensitivity, - systems that are used to store, transmit and process the data - regulatory and legal requirements (PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc)

Organizations should develop a Patch Management process. 1. Test environment and user regression testing. 2. Deploy to a pilot group of systems. 3. Communicate to all users affected by the change. A backup plan is a must during any deployment. Practice the back out plan. If the update cannot be installed due to technical limitations, you must apply compensating controls. This may be firewall restrictions on the network and/or client systems. Overall, systems must be updated to eliminate any vectors of compromise and keep your organization safe from cyber attacks.
