Always ask for a trial period before purchasing a new software!!! Sometimes their features don't work well for your needs, even if they looked like they would. Other times, your team doesn't adapt to the software. The most important is checking what works for you and your team; it won't matter if they have the most expensive software when they aren't able to use it well - and this is not something to be ashamed of. I've seen co-workers do incredible things with free software and when they upgraded tools, it was overly complicated for them and they just ended up using the free one anyway.

The testing period for the software is also a good opportunity to not only road test the features of the software but to also reach out to the developers about features that you would want to see. Developers are usually accessible and take suggestions or requests seriously for their platform.

Besides defining the why, and need of a comms software; the question I would ask is - what tools do we have today and what yield are they giving to our communication pipeline and delivery? Can we track accurate measurements and data of outcomes and engagement post publishing? If the results of those queries are less than satisfactory then we can consider another avenue or software than can better equip us with our ultimate communication goals that will positively impact our business.
