Some hold titles that warrant them being sought after and others can be found in their ability pour into teams what can propel them further. It has been my own experience the intangible wealth shown from being a sounding board for creative paths aid in strategic mastery in tactical execution when these mentors vest in the holistic outcomes of those who seek them or lean towards their insights ultimately making their own choices to win the long game. Change is constant and to get wisdom from others wins and failures is invaluable to carve ones own path.

But he is an expert in biomechanics as it relates to golf swings and he coaches that. Tiger Woods could become a mentor to a young player whose wants to win 10+ majors. The swing coach can't do that with any credibility. So, don't hire a coach if you're looking for a mentor, and vice versa.

As they say, when the student is ready, master appears. First thing is you have to accept and realize that you need a mentor. Once this realization happens, attend various conferences and seminar and be in touch with senior people in your domain who have done it in the past. Request them for a 121 meeting. Do the homework from your side and explain them why you need a mentor and how they can add value to you as a mentor. Be polite and humble. Openly inform them you are ready to do some homework as per the guidance and after submitting your homework if they are ok with it, then they can accept you as a mentee. This way you are ready to prove your eagerness and willingness to learn. Many of the mentors will like this attitude.
