Myth1: Systems Engineering is only related to servers There are lot of other areas where a systems engineer needs to focus on like: design, development, validation and support activities and interacting with stakeholders. Myth2: Systems Engineering is only related to IT Engineers, it can be applied to all engineering disciplines. Myth3: Systems Engineering is too theoretical. Theory is important to understand the workflow of system, for e.g. understanding a payments system. But after that it's all practical work.

Excellent systems engineers have previous experience that developed depth in technical areas. When this multi-disciplinary experience is brought to the system-level perspective, it enables the systems engineer to ask thought provoking questions, dive deep quickly, and communicate with a broad range of stakeholders. Newer systems engineers shouldn’t shy away from learning more about technical areas that interest them as this is how a broad span of knowledge is built. The big picture perspective is what is most important and diversity of thought at that level makes a high performing systems engineering team.
