Unfortunately, there is no formal education for software testing at universities. When you want to start working in software testing, I recommend you to study computer science! You will learn the foundations of computers, programming languages and more technical topics. In the best case, some classes cover quality aspects. With a computer science degree, you have all the possibilities in software testing. You can start working as test automation engineer and use your programming skills for it. All the technical knowledge about systems will help you to become a great software tester.

One route is starting with a solid education in computer science, software engineering or related field. That gives you a good foundation to understand the ins and outs of how software works. Another way is to dive into the field, maybe starting with entry-level positions like a QA tester or a software tester. You learn on the job, gaining experience and picking up skills along the way. Them there's certification. Getting certified in software testing can boost your credibility and show employers you know your stuff. There are certifications out there like ISTQB that can give you an edge. Networking is key too. Connecting with other professionals in the field, joining communities and attending conferences can new open doors.

Anyone can become a software Test Engineer with hard work and a can do attitude. I have a degree in mechanical engineering. That did not stop me from getting into IT. Knowledge of OOPS, Data Structures and Testing frameworks along with Testing methodologies can catapult your career as a software tester

If you are trying to make a decision "Should I study to get an XYZ certificate?" here's what I did years ago when I got my ISTQB Foundation. I monitored job boards for testing-related roles and noticed that ~70% of roles have the ISTQB certificate as a "must" or "nice to have". So I went and got certified. Note that I did it not because it was THE BEST thing to spend my time on. I did it because I didn't want to reduce the likelihood of NOT GETTING an interview for "artificial reason".

There are testing certificates on the market. I am usually not a big fan of the theoretical ones. Sure, you learn the fundamentals of software testing. But it's all theoretical. Learning testing on the job is the best! I suggest working a few years in testing, then take an exam to get certified. Some companies want you to have certifications in order to get the job, which makes no sense, but they make the rules. If you want to get a certification, have a look at BBST or MITC. They focus more on the practical side of testing.

In my opinion, certifications such as ISTQB are valuable, especially at the beginning of a QA career, because they can increase marketability. However, in practice, I have noticed that although having numerous certificates may initially stand out on a CV, companies usually put experience and knowledge first during the recruitment process, so I would focus more on these aspects! :)

While I have an ISTQB certification, I found that learning on the job from other testers and developers was the fastest way to increase my testing knowledge. I would encourage getting certified, but not as a first step. I would establish a solid foundation for testing, work in the field, and then acquire a certification to show your expertise.

I choose Online courses and resources. This path allows for flexible learning, often at your own pace, and provides access to a wide range of relevant materials, including tutorials, articles, webinars, and forums. Online courses from platforms like Udemy, Coursera, or LinkedIn Learning can help you acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in software testing.

On-the-job training in software testing is the most effective. Since there is no formal education at university about software testing! If you are a software testing starter, I recommend you to start working at a company where they have already a QA department or team. You can learn from the more senior people in the company. It will help you to learn fast and directly on a product. If you have the chance, search for a mentor. He or she can guide you through the software testing career and give you some advice.

On job trainings would provide a better future on the job, coz - you can understand how the software is used in real life and how can it be tested for real time use - know how different guidelines or regulation compliance related requirements can be tested - understand how to collaborate and work - experience different scenarios based on customer request for the same product - how the process or testing techniques are followed and tailored for different projects based on various dependent factors

While it may vary in some respects from person to person and how they learn, I have found on the job training most beneficial. Learning on the job allows you to develop a strong knowledge of the business domain and the processes which are crucial for successful testing and planning. Technical knowledge without a knowledge of the business can lead to poor test quality.

One aspect for everyone planning a career in software testing is - strive to be the BEST in the field in ensuring that testing is thorough for all critical paths to avoid any defect leakage. Build your own credibility (and reliability of your work). It is said that there is no 100% testing but if a critical defect is found in production by an end user, it impacts the credibility of QA & everyone on team impacting the product/solution.
