You’re considering a career in consulting. What are the most important things to keep in mind?

A high-level roadmap to get started in selecting your consulting niche- 1. Skills and Expertise: Start by reflecting on your existing skills, experience, and areas of expertise. This forms the foundation for your niche selection. Consider your academic background, professional certifications, and past consulting projects. 2. Industry Trends: Research current and upcoming trends in various industries. Identify industries with potential for significant growth or facing unique challenges that require specific expertise. 3.Validate Your Niche Idea: Once you have a potential niche in mind, share it with your network of colleagues, mentors. Seek their feedback on the relevance, value proposition, and potential demand for your niche services.

Choosing the sector/niche where we are going to develop is essential in any career, because it indicates where we are going to direct our efforts, both in learning and in the search for income. However, in the case of consulting and with such a globalized world, in my opinion, it is good to work as a team with professionals who are dedicated to other areas of consulting to offer comprehensive services to clients. For example, if a person wants to work as a financial consultant for companies, it would be good to have a firm that included consultants in processes, marketing, operations, technology, etc., so that the services could be cross-sold and obtain a greater customer satisfaction.

Uno de los recursos más útiles para madurar y progresar en el sector de la consultoría consiste en adquirir experiencias que ofrezcan aprendizajes significativos. Por eso, colaborar con otras personas consultoras, prestando apoyo y/o soporte en sus proyectos, puede ser una adecuada estrategia que ofrece como retorno la posibilidad de conocer y comprender procesos a los que normalmente no se acceden al comienzo. Hay numerosas personas consultoras que trabajan en red y que, a menudo, requieren apoyos concretos para desenvolverse con agilidad entre los distintos proyectos. Para ello, es relativamente sencillo conectar con esa red a través de Linkedin, conversar y ponerse a disposición de manera genuina y honesta.

De mon point de vue, le plus important à garder en tête est d’être toujours orienté Satisfaction clients ! Il faut sans cesse s’auto-challenger et se demander quelle est notre réel apport, notre vraie valeur ajoutée pour aider notre client à atteindre son objectif. En ce qui me concerne pour chaque mission, je fais le choix d’avoir une approche immersive. J’essaie vraiment de me donner les moyens de me mettre à la place de n’importe quel collaborateur de l’entreprise afin de capter la culture, les valeurs partagées et parfaitement comprendre les enjeux globaux, quelque soit le service et le type d’interlocuteur, ainsi j’ai l’assurance d’offrir un service sur-mesure à mon client et je me donne les moyens de satisfaire sa demande.

Becoming a consultant requires you to be able to handle all types of customers. Some clients will be your huge fans, while others will not recognize the value you provide. Your success as a consultant will depend on clearly understanding your customers' requirements, creating a roadmap, showing them the before and after pictures, and showing them what steps they need to take to reach the desired outcome. Customers want to know how their lives will improve after working with you.

No es posible dejar de aprender. La consultoría es el resultado de saber identificar necesidades reales latentes, que no siempre se manifiestan en la conversación, y desde ahí generar soluciones específicas que afrontan la problemática. La mochila de conocimientos, estrategias, herramientas y habilidades debe ensancharse y revisarse continuamente. La experiencia es una forma de aprendizaje: extraer conclusiones que integrar en esa mochila a cada paso que se da te hace exponer los paradigmas y teorías existentes con la realidad que se te presenta por delante. Aprender a aprender de forma continua es el reto de toda persona consultora.
