I have found setting and honoring boundaries is one of the best ways to create and maintain strong relationships when interviewing high-profile people. Determine ahead of time what is off limits and stick to that agreement. If something is a no-go, don’t try to pressure the individual or ask for the information anyway (off the record). This will help people build trust and believe that you have their best interests in mind.
