The first step in engineering decision making is recognizing there is a decision to make. So often this is overlooked in today's environment.

1. Learn from the best practices of other companies or industries that you can find on papers 2. You can also communicate with your team and other teams outside your division to understand their needs and expectations. 3. Use feedback and data to evaluate the current situation.

Ask yourself and your team what are the long term benefits. A short disruption can pay large benefits. Change is a constant and continuous process.

Define a goal is very crucial step. We discuss in words and is mixed with human emotions. Business problem should be converted from words into numbers and then numbers convert into data. Data has to be converted into Decisions. We can use tools like DMAIC , DFSS for same. Can also use Kano model for addressing customer perspective for defining business problems goals.

It is much easier to set vague goals, and lament missing targets in hindsight. Much harder is defining your goals ahead of time, but it is the more rewarding path, and the one more likely to result in success.

Expected Outcomes: Identify specific improvements like efficiency, quality, cost reduction, or customer satisfaction. Measurement: Define measurable KPIs aligned with outcomes and set a baseline for comparison. Constraints: Consider limitations such as budget, technology, regulations, and resources, along with potential trade-offs. Clear Goals: Set SMART goals that align with customer needs, business strategy, and resources. Alignment: Ensure goals match customer expectations and contribute to overall business objectives.

Develop a strategic plan outlining goals, timelines, and resources needed for the transition. I strongly agree on above for general reference. Need to be evolutions mode rather than making it more complicated. Should use more statistics for deriving a possible solution of the problem/ goal. Use tools like six sigma, mini tab data analysis for identifying some derivated outcomes. It’s very important phase and should spend sufficient energy and time on it.

Handling changes starts with good planning. There will be parts that are spread across many stages of manufacturing, stock, supplier, in transit etc. Take a clear statement of all these stocks, how the stocks are to be handled, when to implement changes based on production plan etc. All these will be captured in planning

Develop a comprehensive plan that outlines the boundaries indicating timelines, defining tasks, allocating resources, and responsibilities for implementing the changes in the manufacturing process. Clearly set clear objectives, KPI's to monitor and measure the results, then take correction action to enhance the process.

Consistently seek feedback from reliable sources, such as mentors, colleagues or customers to gather diverse perspectives and ensure the reliability of the feedback received. Then use for a new manufacturing state of art technology.

Learning from experience and adapting is something we all do in our lives. However, remembering to do that in each project is a much taller order! Remembering to revisit a project 3 months after completion is hard. And even harder is listening to criticism on a project after you have spent a year of your life on it. But that is often how we can learn best, and improve the most. Not taking criticism personally, but instead seeing criticism as valuable feedback is a key to success in this realm.

One way to keep fresh is to make a “Best Practices” mindset part of your team’s charter. Taking the time to define key development strategies (that are known to be robust and efficient) keeps the creative juices flowing. In addition, making a review of these practices a regular occurrence will help gage them against industry (and technology) trends.

Create an Obeya Room to track periodically (weekly or every 2 weeks) the goals, metrics, projects, and Kaizens for Transformation.
