Being an experienced person in the realm of Higher Education, we may mediate between a tenured professor and university administration with an objective to reach an amiable resolution. We may be in a better position to address the issue as we recognize both the autonomy of an academician and the exigencies of an administrator. We have to demonstrate that we are sincere and honest in appreciating the perspectives of both the parties without any bias whatsoever. We may arrange a one to one meeting between them where they discuss their concerns and disagreements with an open mind to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution within the ambit of procedures and regulations of the university. Such a constructive approach will mitigate bitterness.

I think the first step is in understanding what the issue is between the professor and the administration. So often we perceive conflict as a negative and it is neither negative nor positive it simply is a difference of perspectives. Once you have heard both perspectives and understand the conflict the next step is seeking the resolution that will best taking into consideration institutional policies and faculty contract. It is important to remain objective and finding the solution that will result in neither party feeling unheard and unvalued.

To navigate a conflict between a tenured professor and the university administration, remain neutral and professional, focusing on the issue at hand rather than taking sides. Communicate transparently with both parties to understand their concerns and seek common ground. Encourage collaboration and propose solutions that align with institutional goals while respecting academic freedom and administrative policies.
