Most of the statistics insights that would drive a data decision are on general feature i.e age, gender, location, occupations ... as opposed to the unique feature that identify an individual i.e ID numbers

Fast forward, we developed many technologies to strike a balance between ad performance and user privacy. Most of these technologies involve anonymization so nobody can identify individual user behaviors, but collaboratively have models such as federation learning to make relevant recommendations to users.

It’s important to periodically update human subjects protocol trainings to remind ourselves why it’s important to always be transparent about the purpose of survey data collection and the use of it. Our hope is to collect complete sets of data but survey participants should always be given the choice to respond to any question or not - the important bit to note is that survey completion rates can also indicate important learning about the sample population.

Statistical insights should always be attribute-centric so that the need to reveal the identity of population becomes irrelevant. For example, a research on employment opportunities and social well-being does not have to concern about a particular troubled country or region. An exception to this rule is health-related research that generally has a bearing on genetical characteristics of people found in certain regions. However, here too, one can refer to a broader region or race so that the specific sample population does not feel being ridiculed.
