Pick an area of technology that interests you that you know well and lead 2-3 of the 10 best deals that have been done in that sector. Serious people don’t care about all the branding BS. It’s a quantitative business with a clear scorecard. The best founders and LPs want to work with the best VCs. Yes being a great board member, etc is all important but those things flow from finding and executing a the best deals with category defining founders.

I believe its about setting the right objective of VC and matching these to the beliefs and purpose of the founders or partners. The passion exhibited by the partners will also determine what impact their purpose signifies. A fund could focus on impact and not attain its desired return. Asking the question about purpose above profit ? Also a portfolio of funds especially if you are based in Emerging markets or Advanced economies could also determine the segmentation and the balance that needs to be attained. In Emerging markets where challenges begging to be turned into opportunities the purpose above profits begins to create longer expectations of return. This exposes principal+ returns+ exit dates to macro and policy volatilities

Create a strong online presence through platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and industry blogs. Share insights, trends, and your perspectives on relevant topics. Regularly post content that showcases your expertise and engages with your audience. Building a personal website can also serve as a hub for your professional achievements and thought leadership.

Use storytelling to make complex concepts relatable and actionable. As a result, you’ll establish yourself as a leading voice in venture capital attracting others.

It also translates to more followers for myself and my company so it’s a positive thing all around.

And values and character are demonstrated by what you do for the startup community and your founders. How do you give back? How available are you for your own founders, and emerging managers or founders that may not have much to “give” you at the moment? Mentoring across a broad cross section of founders from different background and focus areas, including social impact or even non-profit, can not only elevate your sense of meaning and purpose, but often (if not usually), it’s the mentor that becomes the student.
