Finding a niche can be the most enriching experience! Say you've enjoyed modern art and bold expression all your life and you start to realize you like to abstract from the norm. Or, you've enjoyed retro games your entire life and now you want to make something influenced by a different generation of graphics. No matter what, as long as you enjoy it and it makes you happy to create, you will start to carve out the niche that feels good. And, if you don't know yet, it gives you an excuse to immerse in something entirely new and different! You can also just interact with other people in niches you enjoy and start to truly figure out who you are from there. Inspiration is key!

Twitter, reddit, youtube, etc. have so many budding creators who have established their brand by making what they love or teaching a craft they enjoy. You can also look for other folks who have made plug ins or tools to help you! Things like aesprite/blender plug ins or things like Polligon are a couple examples of homebrew software that offer some serious jumping off points.

It allows you to have fun while getting some seriously good practice in. It not only makes for a nice portfolio but you start to interact with people who both create and enjoy this style of modeling and find yourself networking with likeminded people!

You can work with other 3D modelers who have different specialties or styles, or with other creatives who have different disciplines or backgrounds. Ask questions in forums, talk to friends or co-workers who use the same programs and see if you can't get advice, or even just pitching ideas to friends and creators to make a cool project together are all wonderful collaborative efforts that not only push your own personal progress, it enriches other creators and allows everybody to learn from one another and learn how to network better.
