To regain a client's trust and confidence after questioning your team's expertise, start by acknowledging their concerns. Actively listen without being defensive, showing empathy and validating their feelings. Next, assess the situation to understand the specific reasons behind their doubts, analyzing any miscommunications or gaps in deliverables. Communicate transparently by sharing your findings and outlining how you plan to address the issues moving forward.

It is important to approach the situation with openness and a willingness to help. Start by acknowledging their concerns and inviting a conversation to understand what is bothering them. Share examples and success stories that highlight your team’s abilities and past achievements. Offer to adjust your strategy if needed, showing that you are flexible and dedicated to delivering the best results possible. Keep the client updated regularly to reassure them that you are on top of things. By being accountable, reaffirming your skills, and focusing on their needs, you can begin to rebuild their trust and confidence.

Sometimes your team and the client may have gotten off on the wrong footing. It might have been something someone said. I once had a client who would resort to 'white lies' in order to test our team members. Unfortunately, a colleague of mine, a very conscientious lady, took umbrage to the client's behavior. I respected the lady's capabilities and didn't want the project to lose out on her expertise. So I went through a process of calming her, shielding her from the client, getting the work done, then when the client was impressed by the output, gently and firmly informing him of the issue, warning him of the potential loss of such a valuable resource, if he didn't mend his ways. Thankfully, he understood.
