Our educators focus on agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H and youth development, and environmental and natural resources. UME programs include information for Marylanders about health and wellness, environmental wellness, small business assistance, beginning farmer workshops, digital literacy, and much more. In Maryland, UME employs approximately 200 faculty and approximately 200 support staff and contractual employees located at the University of Maryland, College Park; University of Maryland Eastern Shore; 23 counties; Baltimore City; and four research and education centers. Nurture Natives Cofounders, Esther Bonney and Samantha Rutherford, won the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2024 Presidential Environmental Youth Award for Region 3! The Nurture Natives program was developed as a 4-H project in which the girls created a guide to help residents in Charles County learn to recognize and appreciate native plants to restore native landscapes.
