Try chasing depth instead of trends. Encourage your team to find the why behind trends. They might generate fresh insights others missed. Another thing is reflection. When your brain isn’t busy putting out fires, it gets creative. You’d be surprised at the breakthrough ideas people think up when they aren’t constantly pressed with deadlines. Forget trend-chasing. Build a culture that questions, reflects, and gets bored enough to innovate. That’s where the magic happens.

Here's what has helped me. 1. Create a trend-tracking system: Set up a shared dashboard where team members can log emerging trends, competitor moves, and consumer insights. In my experience, break times are a great moment to foster this space. The team can talk freely without any preconceived mindset. We should also accept that not everyone’s creativity will manifest in the same way. But that doesn’t mean they’re not creative. Creativity can take on various forms and have different applications.

The more virgin brain is, the better. I ask complex questions about projects the newbie. Of course, I will provide all the information and offer something if she/he comes up with at least five ideas for a solution. A prize and a bigger prize if I can use one the given idea. Works like a charm.

Another important point is that I always encourage individuals to critique their own work and evaluate the outcomes. This gives them a valuable perspective that allows them to try new approaches.

This is the 2. rule they have to know, I mean my team. We have enough room to fail, but we must discuss it afterwards. Failing is the most effective way to learn something.

As far as the organization has given me authority, I try to implement programs that help the team break out of their routines. This break from routine allows team members to think about new methods, new approaches, and new tasks. However, in reality, our authority is limited, so we need to consider alternative ways for this. That’s why I try to create this space for them by forming different groups on social media platforms.

In my opinion, the most important reward for creativity is the outcome itself. When creativity is recognized, it becomes the main driver for future innovations, whereas when it goes unnoticed, it’s the key factor in discouraging team members from being creative. The best reward is to highlight the creativity and its result, so the team knows their efforts are appreciated. Alongside this, we can also consider other rewards like financial bonuses. However, I believe financial rewards alone signify that the creativity wasn’t truly recognized, which can be demotivating.
