One thing that I have found helpful when trying to get new ideas on the table is to use a Design Thinking approach called "statement starters". The idea is create statements that start with "how might we...", or "in what ways can we...". The rest of this statement is a big goal, i.e. "how might we eliminate 100% of injuries?". At this point give your team 10-15 minutes to come up with as many ways to solve these problems as possible. Put them on post-its and give rewards for the most ideas. To me, this makes the exercise of putting unconventional ideas on the table much easier. If you want to solve big problems, you are going to have to think in unconventional ways. Statement starters are a great way to do that.
