During an Agile transition, conflicting expectations are common as team members adapt to new roles and workflows. A useful strategy is to establish a shared vision early on by hosting a series of workshops that clarify Agile principles and the transition’s goals. For example, in my experience as a Certified Scrum Master (CSM), using a "Working Agreement" session at the start of a sprint helped the team align on values, communication norms, and task ownership. We reviewed the agreement weekly to keep everyone accountable and aligned, which significantly reduced misunderstandings and kept the team’s focus steady on project goals.

Navigating conflicting expectations during an Agile transition requires structured open communication and collaboration. Key strategies include facilitating team dialogue to capture diverse perspectives, clarifying Agile principles for shared understanding, and involving team members to promote ownership. Setting clear goals, addressing concerns, and regularly checking in are vital for alignment. Flexibility to adapt based on feedback, celebrating small successes, and reinforcing leadership support are essential for guiding the team effectively through the transition.
