I completely agree with this notion. The same happened to me when I was working on a fast-paced project. These are the steps that helped me identify the gaps in this process: 1. Identify who is responsible for the particular story or task. 2. Set up a one-on-one with the team member. 3. Jot down the points (active listening). 4. Show them you care so they don’t feel the need to reciprocate. 5. Appreciate them for being honest. 6. Ask for help or support from other team members. 7. Be open to implementing their suggestions. The solution is there; one just needs to be mindful while dealing with uncertainty. These are the add-ons to the above suggestions.

PMs have many opportunities to set expectations with the team - including project kick offs and stand up meetings. Set the tone early with a clear definition of roles, responsibilities and deadlines from the very start. This ensures everyone knows their part to play in the project and the impact of work not being completed. Reaffirm the tone on the regular in stand ups encouraging maximum transparency. By setting the tone early and reaffirming it regularly PMs create an enviroment of clarity, accountability and continuous improvement. This motivates the team to not only deliver on time, but beyond expectations.

Monitoring progress updates is essential in project executing. Regular check-in meeting can monitor and ensure deadlines are met. In this meeting, all team members are proactively speak-up if any problems or obstacles arise, then solving together. Any support from leadership team can be considered in front, even prior to problem raises.
