One thing I have found very helpful when facing motivation issues with the teams is implementing some rules and tips from my running experience. It takes a lot of mental preparation, and not only the physical one, to have your first half-marathon done. At the beginning, you are terrified of the long-distance run, you are not convinced that you can do it. If you just start with small distances and maintain the constant training, the "scary" feeling from the beginning becomes a "great" feeling, your self-esteem is growing constantly, transforming it in a "rewarding" sentiment. The idea that you can do the impossible possible is priceless! This is more or less how we should approach our teams when facing task overload and lack of motivation.
