Having just come off of a three month US tour with Hard Rock Cafe, I know FIRST HAND how importance our vocal health is. I've boiled vocal performance necessities down to the following: Prioritize Rest and Sleep Mind Your Diet - no acidity or dairy, but plenty of hydration! Vocal Warm-Ups and Cool-Downs Yoga and Stretching because tension in the body often manifests in the voice. Stress Management Techniques, because we hold stress in the body, which then manifests as how we sing and use our voice. By incorporating these habits, I found that I was able to really perform consistently at a high level whilst on tour. I also teach these techniques to my vocal clients - and even other public speakers and educators who use their voice often!

Being a professional of the voice requires physical, emotional & psychological care. Good sleeping, healthy diet, eat early at night, non spicy, non diary, in my case no too much chocolate or coffee to prevent reflux. Hydration! during the whole day, avoid big changes of temperature, take a travel humidifier. Avoid long phone talks, or talking in the car or plane, make silence breaks. Non smoking, avoid smoking places & loud areas. Meditation, Yoga, walks for example or any other artistic expression. In case of stage fry or stress, Behaviour therapie is one of my recommendations. Have a routine of warm ups and cool downs. Mark in rehearsals the day of the performance. Learn the basics sound technical issues to know what to ask.

I’ve found that using Fitzmaurice Voicework’s tremoring techniques vitally important to maintain a daily balance in my life as a voice coach, voiceover artist, and special education teacher. Fitzmaurice Voicework dovetails with my personal and creative lifestyle. I am a healthier person because of my daily vocal practice. It did take years of practice, study and exploration, but it all began with one day at a time. So, essentially, I chose to focus on vocal conditioning, and the results are in! I’m always happy, learning and ready to speak or sing.
