Bigger organisations often have restructurings that involve product scope change. It's important to do 2 things when such situations arise: (1) Appreciate the impact that the team has created in the past, highlight how that helped the company achieve its goals; (2) Look at the change of scope more optimistically first, understand what the new challenge looks like, and then create your new product vision that you can rally the team around.

People are hesitant to change and it's natural for the team to feel demotivated during a product strategy pivot. Ensure that they understand the reason for the pivot. Give them details and context around the change so that they understand why the change was needed and how the change is going to benefit in the long run.

One thing that has worked well in my experience is keeping communication open and transparent, especially about why the pivot is necessary and how it impacts the bigger picture. Celebrating even the smallest milestones can shift focus back to progress and keep momentum going. When the team feels heard and valued through regular feedback loops, morale stays strong despite the uncertainty.

1?? Communicate Transparently Uncertainty breeds anxiety. Be open and honest with your team about the reasons behind the pivot, what challenges you’re facing, and the long-term vision. Clear, transparent communication fosters trust and helps everyone feel aligned with the bigger picture. Share both the risks and the potential rewards to show the value of their contributions. 2?? Celebrate Small Wins During a pivot, progress can feel slow. Celebrating even the smallest achievements helps maintain momentum and builds a sense of accomplishment. Recognizing team members’ hard work—whether it’s hitting a key milestone or solving a complex issue—keeps spirits high and shows that forward motion is happening, even in challenging times.

Empowered Team Environment: I prioritize creating a safe space for dialogue where team members can express concerns and share insights. This open communication adopts a sense of ownership and collective responsibility. Highlighting Key Metrics and Progress: I emphasize the importance of data-driven decision-making by regularly sharing relevant KPIs that highlight our progress, even if small. Celebrating milestones, no matter how minor, reinforces our momentum and keeps everyone aligned toward our goals. Inviting Cross-Functional Collaboration: I actively encourage collaboration across departments, allowing teams to leverage diverse skill sets.
