Leaders can support team members in recovering from burnout by coaching them to shift from a victim mindset to an ownership mindset, empowering them to make positive choices. Encouraging proactive actions rather than waiting for motivation helps break exhaustion cycles. Prioritizing self-care, rest, and breaks is crucial. Challenging workplace norms and setting boundaries, such as disconnecting after work, can restore control. Open communication with colleagues and supervisors aids in workload management. If unreasonable demands persist, exploring new job opportunities may be necessary. Intentional choices lead to recovery and renewed enthusiasm for work and life.

Well said and strongly agree. Workplace environment matters as employees may carry on with less compensation but difficult with toxic work environment.

One strategy that’s worked for me is involving the team in decision-making. When people feel heard and have a say in priorities, they’re more invested. Another game-changer? Emphasizing impact. Remind your team why their work matters. Connecting the daily grind to the bigger picture can reignite motivation. Finally, I’ve found that small gestures, like an impromptu “thank you” or a surprise team lunch, go a long way. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

During my internships, my teams and I faced numerous cycles of feature iterations, and it was easy to feel burnt out. However, here's what I learnt from my to keep the team motivated: Celebrating small wins: My managers made sure we recognized even the smallest achievements, which helped us stay energized and motivated, knowing that progress was still being made. Encouraging role rotation: By allowing team members to occasionally take on different responsibilities, my managers kept the work fresh and gave us the chance to explore new areas, avoiding monotony. Aligning on clear goals: My managers always emphasized the importance of focusing on the bigger picture by breaking down long-term objectives into manageable, short-term milestones.

One of the most important things is empathy towards the feelings of you team. If someone feels burned out don't dismiss it but make the person feel seen as a first step. Then make sure people are empowered and get to participate in the decision making process that involves their goals achievement.
